Managing contractor compliance

Rail Safety - Managing Contractor Compliance For Rail Network Owners

Background

Across Australia, the rail industry is undergoing a major infrastructure boom. New light and heavy networks are being developing and existing networks are undergoing major upgrades.
During these times, 100s of large and small contracting companies perform civil, electrical and other infrastructure activities on rail networks.

The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) requires each rail worker to prove their identity and demonstrate the training and competence the worker has obtained in order to perform that work.

In Melbourne both MTM and Yarra Trams heavy and light rail networks are working through a full schedule of major infrastructure upgrades. To ensure efficiency and compliance with ONRSR, VIc State regualtions and each Network's own electrical safety rules, Yarra Trams and MTM require a system to easily enable Contractors to access online inductions and self paced and instructor led training programs. The platform also needed to provide a method of displaying training records in an easy, online environment for Project Managers and safety auditors to view.

Our Role

Thomson Bridge has deployed its Learning Management System, The Bridge, to light and heavy rail Contractos working on rail infrasructure across Melbourne. The Bridge hosts eLearning content, enables Contractors to self enroll and complete engaging and relevant learning content and self marking assessments. Also, in response to the evolving environment, additioanl courses are published on The Bridge portal that are a mix of self paced and virtual instructor led programs.

Certification is uploaded automatically and matched against pre-defined learning frameworks and skill sets specific to each Rail Network.

The Bridge can also host other relevant training records which can be uploaded for compliance prior to a work party commencing works.
