UETTDRRF07 - Perform cable pit/trench/excavation rescue

Description

This Course covers the performance of cable pit/trench/excavation rescue procedures as they apply to live low voltage (LV) cable jointing in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a cable pit/trench/excavation and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

Unit Prerequisites

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Training Location

The course involves theory information in a classroom environment and practical exercises . Either on client site or at approved training locations

Learning activities

Emergency procedures for the skills required to rescue of a victim from a cable pit / trench / excavation encompassing:
Placement and Inspection of rescue equipment
Assessing and controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
Isolation procedures where appropriate
Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a cable pit / trench / excavation
Involvement of external emergency services as appropriate
Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
Removing victim / self to safe location / place of safety

Equipment & PPE

Attendees are required to wear their Employer's standard PPE (shirt, trousers, boots) for performance of practical exercises.

Attendee Prerequisites

Participants must be literate in spoken English and competent in reading, writing and numeracy.
